A quick overview of the A+ 2003 exam format:

Number of exams to complete: 2 (220-301 (hardware) and 220-302 (operating systems))

Number of questions: Approx. 100 questions for each exam

Passing score (on a scale of 100 to 900):
Exam 220-301 515 points
Exam 220-302 505 points

Exam Duration: 90 minutes for each exam

Type of exam: Mostly multiple choice, linear format. The question format includes multiple choice with one solution from a number of options, multiple choice with multiple correct answers (you will be advised how many correct answers you need to provide), and fill-in-the-blank questions.

The exams can be taken at any Pearson VUE or Thompson Prometric centre, and it’s always a good idea to check on their respective websites to find your local testing centre and to find the current fees and policies for taking the exams. You can opt to take either of the exams first but you only gain the A+ credential after successfully passing both exams.

Once A+ qualified you are essentially qualified for life with no requirement to update. You can of course opt to upgrade your certification as new A+ versions are rolled out, but chances are that if you’re using the A+ as a means to get into the I.T. industry or to further your career, then other certifications will be more relevant to you over time than an upgraded A+.

If you fail any one of the exams you are entitled to retake the exam as soon as you wish (providing you pay the appropriate fees), but if you fail the same exam a second time you must wait at least 30 days before retaking the exam.
