CIW Associate Certification

The CIW Associate certification is the entry-level, or foundation credential that serves as a prerequisite and stepping stone to (almost) the entire range of advanced CIW certifications.

The CIW Associate credential comprises just one exam:

As the word ‘foundations’ in the title suggests, this is an entry-level exam that tests skillsets including knowledge of Internet technologies such as Web browsers, FTP and e-mail; Web page authoring using Extensible Hypertext Markup Language (XHTML); basic infrastructure networking, and project management. The exam is a random selection of 85 questions (from a larger pool of questions) and there is 90 minutes in which to complete them. The exam questions are all multiple-choice.

The questions are grouped into modules as follows: To pass the exam a candidate needs to only score 63%, or, 54 of the 85 questions correctly.

Once the exam has been passed, candidates must agree to the CIW Certification Agreement (a typical non-disclosure type of agreement) before their certificate will be sent to them. Once the exam has been passed and the agreement signed, candidates are CIW Associate qualified.

If a candidate fails the 1D0-510 Foundations exam on their first attempt, they must wait a period of at least 24 hours before attempting the exam again. If a candidate fails for a second time, they must then wait for at least 30 days before trying again. All subsequent fails of the same exam require a similar 30 day stand down period.

The exam can be booked through any Prometric or Pearson VUE testing station.
