Where can I use the exam voucher once I have bought it?

Vouchers can be used to book an exam with either Prometric or VUE testing centres in your area. Factors such as what exam you are doing, your location in the world, and where you buy your voucher from will determine which testing centre the voucher is good for. It is important to be observant when buying an exam voucher of which testing centre the voucher is good for. This is particularly of importance to those outside of the U.S. as they may be limited to just VUE testing centres.

To avoid problems later on I recommend working backwards so to speak. Before you consider which voucher to purchase check out the location of both Prometric and VUE testing centres in your area and decide where you would like to take the exam. Then you can go back and start hunting for the best exam voucher bargain sure in the knowledge that you won’t end up with a voucher that is no good to you. One thing to keep in mind is that vouchers that are valid for Prometric testing stations cannot be used at VUE stations and vice-versa. Additionally, exam vouchers bought in the U.S./Canada cannot be used internationally. [top]

Why are exam vouchers always bundled to together with stuff I don’t need?

Vendors, such as Microsoft and CompTIA offer memberships to their organisations that offer a number of benefits, one of which being the ability to buy discount vouchers in bulk. One rule of buying these vouchers however is that they cannot be on-sold to non-members unless they are offered together with other training material or services (the combined value of which must be more than the cost of the voucher itself). This essentially helps to preserve the value of membership to these organisations – after all, why become a member if you could simply buy the benefits whenever and wherever you wished?. For this reason all discount exam vouchers come bundled with all manner of different goodies packaged up with them in an attempt to woo you. In the lovely world of commercialism this means you can shop around to get the best deal, but you’re unlikely to find much difference when it comes to price from the various resellers. The real difference is when it comes to the bundled offers. Irrespective of what they come bundled with however, the cost of bundled package is less than the cost of the exam alone if you didn’t have a voucher so you’re better off before you even begin. How do exam vouchers work?

Certification vouchers come in two forms – electronic and paper. Both are nothing more than a serial number that you quote, hand over, or enter into a form when you make the booking with the testing station. No money changes hands between you and the testing station because you’ve already paid for the exam when you bought the voucher. Each voucher is good for one exam. If you are doing an exam with two distinct parts, like the A+, then you will need one voucher for each exam. If you fail one or both of the exams, then you will need to buy one or two more vouchers to re-take the exams. [top]
