The MCTS Distributed Applications certification is aimed toward developers wishing to demonstrate knowledge of Web services, .NET Framework remoting, Enterprise Services, and Message Queuing technology.
The MCTS Distributed Applications credential is a pre-requisite for candidates who wish to go on to the MCPD Enterprise Applications Developer credential (candidates must also hold the other two MCTS applications credentials, Windows and Web).
To earn the MCTS Distributed Applications certification, candidates must pass two exams, one that focuses on .NET Framework 2.0 foundational skills and one that focuses on developing distributed applications. The two exams are:
Upon successful completion of the two exams the candidate will be awarded the MCTS Distributed Applications certification. While this certification is a stand alone credential in its own right, candidates wishing to go further and gain an MCPD will have to at least gain one other MCTS applications certification (Web or Windows). When a candidate earns the MCTS Web applications or MCTS Windows application certification they then have enough credit to take the respective relevant MCPD track. The MCTS Distributed Applications certification however only leads to the MCPD Enterprise Developer and that track requires three MCTS ‘applications’ certifications as a pre-requisite (Windows, Web and Distributed). The exam 70-536 is common across the three application developer MCTS certifications (Web, Windows and Distributed), so to gain the other two MCTS certifications at the completion of this one the candidate need only pass two more exams.
If you already hold an MCAD or MCSD qualification and are looking to migrate your certification to the new generation MCPD, then you only need to complete the upgrade exam and do not have to obtain the MCTS qualification first.<< Back to MCTS main page
