The next step up on the Microsoft certification ladder from the Technology series of exams is the Professional Series of credentials. The Professional series of exams targets the skills of IT professionals by focusing on the specifics of a typical, and relevant, job role as opposed to the Technology-level exams which focus on specific technologies.
At the time of writing, there are two separate certification tracks offered in the ‘Professional’ series, with more likely to be rolled out as new technologies are launched by Microsoft. The two certification tracks are:
- Microsoft Certified I.T. Professional (MCITP) and
- Microsoft Certified Professional Developer (MCPD)
Both certification tracks require the candidate to pass the corresponding MCTS exams first, and then two additional Professional-level exams.
