MOS certification - Handy tips:
Study the exam objectives. Unlike most other certifications,
the MOS objectives outline specific tasks (rather than concepts) that the
user must be able
to perform. Print off a list of the exam objectives and work your way through
each of them, making sure that you can complete each task without problem.
If you can do each of the objectives outlined, you’ll pass the exam.
Redo each question. Even though Microsoft suggest otherwise,
incorrect menu choices, clicking in the wrong places, trial and error, and
any other false
moves can possibly lead to marks against you,
so you can, if you want to, do each question twice. After you’ve completed
each question, before you submit it and move to the next question you are
offered the option to ‘reset’ the
question. Doing it a second time takes just a fraction of the time it would
have taken the first time (particularly on the multi-task questions), and
you’re more likely to get it perfectly right on the second attempt.
Resetting only resets the question that you are on, not the whole exam.
Read the questions. OK, this is a given for any exam that
you do, but in this case you’ll be asked to complete many objectives in just one question
(like in Excel, tabulate a column, apply a style, and create a graph from
the given data). Before you press ‘submit’, make absolutely sure
that you’ve answered each of the points in the question.
Only do what’s asked of you. The questions are very
explicit in what is required for each task. Only do what is asked, and don’t assume
anything. Even simple things like clicking the ‘save’ button
(if you were not explicitly asked to do so) can count against you.
Don’t fret about the time. Some of the questions are
very long, and have many tasks to complete. Others are quite simple and very
quick to complete.
Don’t get stressed if you find yourself with precious little time to
go and a surprising number of questions left. The next question you get might
be a ‘quickie’, so take your time and get each question right.
You just take care of the questions, and let the clock take care of itself.
