What is the CompTIA Server+ Certification?
The Server+ certification (sk0-003) from CompTIA is a middle-level, vendor-neutral certification aimed primarily at candidates who have approx. 18-24 months experience working in or around a server environment.
Who is the Server+ Certification for?
While CompTIA certifications are generally aimed at entry-level candidates, this is not so much the case with the Server+ certification – prior experience is assumed. By the time you’re ready to take the Server+ exam you should be competent in server technology, installations and configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, upgrading and disaster recovery.
Are there any prerequisites required to take the Server+?
While there are no specific pre-requisites for the Server+ Sk0-003 exam, it should be noted that the exam is targeted toward mid-level technicians so adequate knowledge of networks and hardware is required. To that end, those who are considering doing the Server+ certification as an entry-level cert might be more suited to CompTIA’s other offerings such as the Network+ or A+ first. Indeed, approximately 10 – 15% of the exam objectives for both the Network+ and the A+ overlap into the Server+, so having those exams under your belt first will give you a good foundation to move onto the Server+ exam (although it is not a requirement).
How do I earn the Server+ Certification?
To gain the Server+ certification, candidates must pass one exam, designated SK0-003

The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and a time frame of 90 minutes in which to complete them. The fulll list of exam objectives can be found on CompTIA's website, here, although registration is required first.
What are the passing scores for the Server+ exams?
To pass you need to obtain a score of 750 on a scale of 100-900.
How long is the Server+ valid for?
The Server+ certification is not part of CompTIA's Continuing Education program, so holders of the Server+ credential are deemed certified for life.
How much do the Server+ exams cost?
You can expect to pay around US$250 for the Server+ exam but prices will vary depending on your location and currency fluctuations. Contact your nearest testing station for exact exam prices, or buy an exam voucher from CompTIA's website.
Where to take the Server+ exams
CompTIA exams can be taken at any Pearson VUE testing center.
CompTIA exam retake policy
Upon completion of your exam your score is calculated and you'll be advised, right there and then, as to whether you passed or failed. You can take the exam again immediately (upon payment of the exam fee), if you fail on your first attempt but, if you fail for a second time (or subsequent times after that), then you are required to wait at least 14 days before you are eligible to try again.
