The SCNA certification is Sun’s Solaris offering for experienced network administrators who administer Solaris OS systems in a networked environment. Due to the level of difficulty of the exam, candidates should ideally have at least three years experience as a network administrator (although this is merely a suggestion, not a requirement). What is a requirement, however, is that candidates must first hold a valid SCSA certification (two exams) before being eligible for the SCNA.

Candidates may choose to become SCNA certified for version 8, 9 or 10 of the Solaris OS irrespective of which version they gained their SCSA certification (so a candidate who earns the SCSA on version 8 of the Solaris OS is eligible to attempt the SCNA on version 10). Candidates earn the SCNA certification by successfully passing one exam consisting of 64 questions with 105 minutes to complete them. A score of at least 62% will see the candidate gain the SCNA certification. Questions are in the traditional format of multiple-choice, drag and drop, and free response and the exam can be booked through any Prometric Testing Centre worldwide.

The required exam for each of the SCNA supported versions is: (click the respective link to be taken to the relative Sun web page for exam objectives and other information)
