The SCSA certification is a two-exam credential that tests the candidate’s knowledge of routine and essential Solaris OS system administration procedures.
At the time of writing, candidates can choose to gain the SCSA for the Solaris 8, 9 or 10 OS, and in all cases must pass two exams (for the same OS version) in order to gain the SCSA credential. Candidates who already hold an earlier version of the SCSA can choose to pass one upgrade exam. While there are no prerequisites for taking the SCSA certification exams, Sun suggests that candidates attempting part I of the SCSA should have approx. 6-12 months experience as a system administrator, while those attempting part II should have one year or more experience. Of course, this is a suggestion only.

Certificates for the Solaris certification will not be issued until both exams (part I and part II) have been completed, and part I must be completed first.
The exams are a typical mix of multiple-choice, drag and drop, and scenario-based questions. To successfully pass part I, candidates must achieve a score of at least 61% from a total of 59 questions and a time allocation of 90 minutes. For part II, candidates must score at least 62% from a total of 61 questions and 90 minutes in which to complete them.
